Toyota Names 2014 Environmental Grant Recipients
Toyota City, Japan, October 30, 2014―Toyota Motor Corporation names 21 projects today that will receive grants under the Toyota Environmental Activities Grant Program between April 1 this year and March 31, 2015. Recipients include a project to promote locally directed hydropower generation and watershed protection in Indonesia and a nationwide biodiversity seminar project in Japan.
A total of 121 applications were received in two grant categories (Japan-based projects and projects based outside Japan), and initial screening and selection were conducted by an expert committee chaired by Dr. Keiko Nakamura, director general of the JT Biohistory Research Hall. The selection committee awarded grants to ten overseas projects and 11 Japan-based projects, which were vetted based on their sustainability, expansiveness, and harmony with regional characteristics.
A ceremony will be held in December, where representatives of the selected projects will be presented with grant certificates. A final report meeting is also scheduled for next spring.
The Toyota Environmental Activities Grant Program was launched in 2000 in commemoration of Toyota's receipt of the Global 500 Award* from the United Nations Environment Programme in the previous year. Since then, the program has supported 278 pragmatically minded projects conducted by NPOs and other private non-profit groups in 52 countries and regions.
