Lexus Displaying Next-Generation 'GS 450h' at Frankfurt Show
Toyota City, Japan, September 13, 2011―Lexus announces that it is displaying the next-generation "GS 450h," the upcoming GS hybrid model created to exemplify the future direction of Lexus vehicles, at the 2011 Frankfurt International Motor Show from September 13 to 25. The show is open to the press on September 13 and 14 and for the public from September 15 to 25.
GS 450h (European-market version)
The new GS 450h employs a newly developed 3.5-liter V6 engine and a completely updated hybrid system. As a pioneer of rear-wheel-drive hybrid sedans, the GS 450h combines high power with exceptional economic performance on an unprecedented level.
The GS 450h not only provides dynamic driving with effortlessly smooth and extraordinarily swift performance that rivals a V8 gasoline engine, it is also projected to achieve fuel efficiency at the highest levels of its class1 with CO2 emissions of just 145 g/km or less (EU combined mode), marking further advancement in leading-edge hybrid technology by Lexus.
In addition, the signature spindle grille combines the Lexus-unique inverted trapezoidal upper grille and a trapezoidal lower grille to create a form that makes use of improved airflow and cooling and represents next-generation Lexus front-end design. The completely redesigned platform and suspension is based on the same framework as the new "GS 350", and with a revised hybrid battery layout resulting in a substantially larger cargo space, the GS 450h provides the same high utility as the gasoline-engine model.

The newly developed high-compression, next-generation D-4S2 and Atkinson Cycle 3.5-liter V6 2GR-FXE engine with rear-wheel-drive hybrid technology is a world-first combination3.
With an updated power control unit, an improved hybrid-model-exclusive transmission with two-stage motor-speed reduction device, and reduced friction losses in the motor and generator, the GS 450h provides effortlessly smooth, extraordinarily swift acceleration and exceptional fuel efficiency.
Like the new GS 350, the GS 450h offers three drive modes―Eco, Sport S, and Sport S+. Mode-specific meters with themed displays further enhance driving pleasure.
The spindle grille was developed in pursuit of new possibilities for the L-finesse4 design philosophy to create the archetypical next-generation expression of the Lexus-brand's refined essence and powerful presence.
The compact, two-stage hybrid battery and a new rear-suspension layout support a substantial expansion of the cargo space by about one and a half times to 465 liters (VDA method). This provides ample space to stow four golf bags5 and enhances ease of loading and unloading.
The GS 450h is the first Lexus model to adopt LEDs for both low and high beams, providing outstanding illumination and contributing to a sophisticated feel―further enhanced by L-shaped LED clearance lamps beneath the headlights and also L-shaped LED taillights.
For the first time, the GS 450h's steering wheel features bamboo, which is also featured in the instrument panel, console, and other fixtures to pursue environmental harmony and sophistication while creating a warm and calming interior.
The Radar Cruise Control system with all-speed tracking function and advanced Pre-collision Safety provides additional driver support.
The Lexus booth at the 2011 Frankfurt International Motor Show will also feature the new GS 350, the "LS 600hL" and the "CT 200h."
The GS 450h is scheduled to launch in Japan around the spring of 2012.
