Upgrades Series As Well
Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. and Toyota Motor Sales Co., Ltd. today announced the addition of the spectacualr new top-of-the-line 2800 GT Limited to the Super Grand Turismo Soarer series. Also announced was a partial upgrading of the Soarer series, with all new and improved models released for nationwide sale in Japan today.
Since its debut in February 1981, the Soarer has won outstanding popularity as a state-of-the-art, luxury-class specialty car incorporating the worlds' finest automotive technology. Last December the Soarer was honored as Japan's Car of the Year for 1981-82, an award bestowed by a panel of experts on the car judged the very best of all models marketed during calendar 1981.
The new Soarer 2800 Limited was designed to push the performance and comfort of the whole series to a new peak of excellence, in concert with an upgrading of the Soarer line.
Major features of the Soarer 2800 GT Limited are as follows.
- The top-of-the-line Soarer features microcomputer control. The famous TCCS (Toyota computer Controlled System), for automatic transmission-equipped models, and the Toyota ECT (Electronic Controlled Transmission), a four-speed AT with lock-up clutch mechanism combine with Toyota's high performance/fuel-efficient Twin Cam 6 5M-GEU powerplant, for not only topflight driving but broad improvements in fuel economy as well―rising from 8.1 to 8.2 km/L (10-mode Ministry of Transport test values) and from 15.5 to 17.5 km/L over a set course at 60 km/h (MOT notification values).
- A special two-tone color scheme exclusive on the 2800 GT Limited's exterior enhances its image as a luxury-class specialty car. Designed to possess an elegant quartz-like tone, the newly developed paint contains mica bits which reflect the sun in sophisticated pearl shades far more impressive than standard metallic finishes.
- Every effort has been made to provide a luxurious interior, including Japan's first electronically controlled lumbar support, leather sport seats with a wide range of posture adjustments, leather door trim, Saxony-type carpeting and other deluxe features.
- Standard equipment guaranteed to enhance comfort and safety―speed-responsive automatic door lock, electronic skid control, the finest quality Technics car audio system available, illuminated vanity mirror and other fine touches.
Major specifications of the revamped Soarer series appear on the back of this release.
- Note
- The models described in this release are available only in Japan.
