DOMESTIC SALES OF TOYOTA POPULAR-SIZE STARLET
PASS HALF MILLION MARK
According to statistics compiled by Toyota Motor Sales Company, Ltd., domestic sales of Toyota's popular-size passenger car, the Starlet, passed the 500,000 unit mark (not including commercial-use station wagons) as of the end of February 1982.
Domestic sales of the Starlet from April 1973 through January 1982 had reached 496,575; and with the 6,750 units sold during February, the total reached 503,325, bringing it past 500,000.
The Starlet first went on sale in April of 1973 as the smallest model in the Toyota line. Since that time it has gained a wide following for its excellent performance and economy―including both high fuel efficiency and low sticker price.
After a full model change in February 1978 when the Starlet assumed its current two-box style, sales increased to the point where the Starlet now has few equals in popularity over so long a period.
