TOYOTA ANNOUNCES PRODUCTION. DOMESTIC REGISTRATION AND
EXPORT RESULTS FOR DECEMBER 1986 AND FOR CALENDAR 1986
Toyota City―TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION today announced its production, domestic registration and export results, as well as production and export figures for KD sets for December 1986 and for the year 1986.
DECEMBER 1986
Production
Total production for December was 290,454 units, up 4.0 percent over December 1985. This was the first time in three months for results to be above the corresponding month of 1985.
The production breakdown was 211,045 passenger cars, up 6.0 percent over the previous December, and 79,409 vehicles for commercial use, down 1.1 percent.
Production of KD sets was 24,360 sets, up 9.9 percent over the same month in the previous year.
There were 20 days of production during the month, the same as in December 1985.
Domestic Registrations
Passenger car sales failed to rally during the month, and total domestic registrations were 135,173 units, down 2.9 percent from the same month in the previous year.
A breakdown of registrations shows that although sales of small passenger cars have firmed up due to the solid acceptance of the new Camry and Vista, sales of standard passenger cars failed to grow. As a result, passenger car registrations totaled 104,353 units, down 3.6 percent compared with December 1985. Trucks and buses totaled 30,820 units, down 0.6 percent.
Exports
Total exports in December were 137,844 units, down 10.2 percent from December 1985. This was the sixth consecutive month in which exports were below those of the same month of last year.
The breakdown of exports was 84,906 passenger cars, down 6.3 percent from December 1985, and 52,938 trucks and buses, a 15.7 percent drop.
Exports of KD sets totaled 26,650, up 20.4 percent over December 1985.
JANUARY-DECEMBER 1986
Production
Total production for 1986 was 3,660,167 units, a slight drop of 0.1 percent compared with 1985. This occurred due to a major drop in exports in spite of favorable trends in domestic sales.
The production breakdown was 2,684,024 passenger cars, a 4.5 percent increase over 1985, and 976,143 trucks and buses, down 11.0 percent.
Production of KD sets was a record high of 340,920 sets, a 66.4 percent increase over the previous year.
Domestic Registrations
Sales of both passenger cars and commercial vehicles were steady throughout the year and the annual sales figures were the highest in the company's history. Total domestic registrations were 1,753,972 units, 4.2 percent above 1985.
A breakdown of registrations shows 1,382,609 passenger cars, 4.5 percent above the previous year, and 371,363 trucks and buses, a 3.0 percent increase.
As a result, the company's annual market share came to 30.7 percent, 0.4 percent above the 1985 figure.
Exports
Total exports were about 100,000 units below 1985, at 1,875,763 units, 5.3 percent below those of the previous year. This was caused in large part by a major drop in exports to China and the Middle East, in spite of favorable trends in exports to North America and Europe.
The breakdown of exports was 1,210,200 passenger cars, 0.9 percent above the previous year, and 665,563 trucks and buses, a drop of 14.8 percent.
With NUMMI realizing its first year of full production, exports of KD sets came to 343,240 sets, a record-breaking increase of 69.9 percent.
