TOYOTA INTRODUCES TOP-OF-THE-LINE MODEL TO CAMRY SERIES

SPECIAL FEATURES OF THE PROMINENT

1. Equipped with a newly developed 2-liter, V-6, four-cam, 24-valve engine
   This engine offers high torque and high power for dynamic acceleration from low to high rpm and also achieves amazingly low fuel consumption and superb quietness.
   1. Powerful Performance
      With maximum output of 140ps (6,000rpm, JIS net) and maximum torque of 17.7kg-m (4,600rpm, JIS net), this 2-liter engine offers outstanding performance. By skillfully blending a design that maximizes the special features of the V-engine and Toyota's own valve mechanism technology, this engine achieves 90% or more of maximum torque over a range that extends from nearly 2,500 to 6,000rpm, giving dynamic acceleration performance.

      Special technical features are as follows

      1. Toyota's own four-cam, 24-valve design offers a larger valve area and a lighter valve weight, resulting in higher intake and exhaust efficiency over the entire rpm range and smooth acceleration.
      2. An expanded cylinder-bore diameter that takes advantage of the V-engine means a larger valve area and higher intake and exhaust efficiency.
      3. ACIS (Acoustic Control Induction System) provides ideal control of intake port length over the complete rpm range, assuring higher intake efficiency and greater power.
      4. A knock-control device to control ignition timing results in a higher compression ratio and greater torque over the entire rpm range.

   2. Top-class fuel consumption performance
      By decreasing the valve included angle to 22° 30" and bringing it closer to vertical, the combustion chamber of this engine was made more compact. Also, using a pentroofshaped combustion chamber that positions the spark plugs in the center of the chamber and increasing the squish area result in better combustion efficiency.
      Also, the TCCS (Toyota Computer Controlled System) that combines Toyota's state-of-the-art fuel injection and ignition technologies, contributes to lower fuel consumption. As a result, this offers some of the most outstanding fuel economy among 2-liter V-6 engines.
   3. Superb quietness
      The cylinder bank angle was set at 60°, minimizing basic engine vibration.
      Besides employing a dual-mode crankshaft damper and one-piece bearing caps, various types of ribs were used to assure greater rigidity, resulting in lower noise and vibration. In addition, by using five rubber engine mounts and increasing the rigidity of the mount brackets to minimize vibration transmission to the body, the quietness that distinguishes a true luxury car is assured.
2. Providing interior and exterior trim and equipment worthy of a top-of-the-line model.
   Large polyurethane bumpers were used to increase the overall length by 105mm, and the look of the front end has been revamped by adopting special front grilles, combined fog and head lamps, and new cornering lamps. By using a special resin wheel cap and coordinating the color of the mud guards and door mirrors to match the exterior, a top-of-the-line look has been achieved.
   Also installed were special luxury seats and a leather-look steering wheel. In addition, the instrument panel and power window switch plates were given a wood-grain appearance that provides a handmade touch and enhances the high-class atmosphere of the interior.
   Automatic air-conditioning and four-wheel disk brakes are standard in a full range of equipment worthy of such a true luxury car. The Prominent G offers TEMS, autodrive, a power driver's seat, aluminum wheels, and high-grade audio equipment as standard features.
