TOYOTA INTRODUCES CELICA CONVERTIBLE
Conversion Commissioned to America's ASC Inc.
Toyota City―TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION will place on nationwide sale today the new Celica Convertible, a 4-seater fully-open version of the Celica.
CELICA CONVERTIBLE
The Celica Convertible has an electrically operated power top that opens quickly and easily at the touch of a switch. The body follows coupe styling lines, and features color urethane rear bumper, rear spoiler and rear combination lamps. These features complement the convertible top for a sleek, sporty look.
The Celica Convertible is powered by the 2.0 liter twin-cam 3S-FE type, 16-valve engine, offering excellent overall performance and economy.
This new model was developed as part of Toyota Motor Corporation's active international cooperation scheme along with Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. Inc. The base vehicle is manufactured by Toyota and shipped to the U.S. where ASC Inc.*, a well-respected U.S. convertible builder, attaches the convertible top.
Each Celica Convertible will be produced on order, with monthly production expected at around 100 units.
The Main Features of the Celica Convertible Are
- Power TopThe power top can be easily opened and closed from the driver's seat using a switch on the center console and the lock mechanism at the top of the front window. Made from 3-layered Cambria, a combination of acrylic, butyl rubber and cotton, which offers a number of advantages such as increased strength, greater durability and superior water and weather resistance.
- ExteriorStyling touches include color urethane rear bumper, rear spoiler, rear combination lamps and side accents for a younger, racier look.
- Running PerformanceThe 2.0 liter twin-cam 3S-FE type, 16-valve engine is known for its flexibility with high performance, excellent fuel economy and high torque over the low-to-medium rpm range.
The body is specially designed and reinforced to accept the convertible top and assure superior durability, excellent handling and stability.
