TOYOTA TWO-STROKE ULTRALIGHT CONCEPT CAR DEBUTS
AT FRANKFURT MOTOR SHOW

Toyota City―TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION is displaying a two-stroke ultralight aluminum concept car, the TOYOTA AXV-IV, at the Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany that began today.

Designed for maximum efficiency, the small, aerodynamic AXV-IV features an 804cc two-stroke power plant with a maximum output of 64ps at 4000rpm and peak torque of 12kg-m at 2800rpm.

Extensive use of aluminum in body parts, extruded frame elements, precision casting parts and formed honeycomb paneling brings the AXV-IV's weight down to about 450kg, less than half the weight of the Toyota Corolla. Other lightweight materials include magnesium, FRP, and resins, positioned for easy removal and sorting for recycling.

The chassis uses MacPherson struts on the front and a trailing twist-beam rear suspension. Resin springs, which double as suspension arms for both front and rear wheels, are also used. Also, a new larger and thinner tire size (135/55R16), has been adopted for minimum roll resistance and high performance.

Toyota will also display its new Celica Turbo 4WD Group A Rally Version, scheduled to enter the next World Rally Championship, along with the base model for the car, the Carlos Sainz Limited Edition.

The Frankfurt Motor Show will be held from September 10 to 22.
