TOYOTA ANNOUNCES RESULTS FOR DECEMBER 1992
AND FOR THE YEAR

Toyota City―TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION today announced its domestic production, domestic registration, exports, and overseas production results for December 1992 and for the year.

TOYOTA RESULTS IN DECEMBER 1992 AND FOR THE YEAR
  • Monthly production in December fell for the third straight month compared with the same month of the previous year, partly because there was one less production day than in December 1991. Yearly production in 1992 fell for the second straight year.
  • For the month of December, domestic registrations of the Mark II, Chaser, Cresta, and recreational vehicles fared well, continuing their climb from November. However, total domestic registrations for the month were below those of the same period of the previous year, partly because there were two fewer working days than in December 1991. Toyota held 31.2% of the total market for the month, up 1.0% compared with December 1991. For the year, Toyota achieved new records for the large-class passenger car and recreational vehicle categories, while domestic registrations for the Corsa, Starlet, Hilux, and Hiace enjoyed all-time highs. Total domestic registrations for 1992, however, fell for the second straight year. Toyota held 32.0% of the market in 1992, up 0.7% from the previous year.
  • Monthly exports were down for the second straight month compared with the same period of the previous year, as exports to North America and Europe decreased considerably.
Meanwhile, overseas production expanded steadily in December, notably in North America, exceeding that of the same month of 1991 for the seventh consecutive month.
  • Total exports for 1992 fell for the first time in three years. In contrast, yearly overseas production rose for the first time in two years, thanks to steady expansion mainly in North America.
