MINOR MODEL CHANGE FOR SUPRA

Toyota City―TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION today announced minor model changes for the top-class specialty Supra, along with a new version, the 3.0 GT Turbo A. Both models will immediately go on sale nationwide.

The minor model changes include modifications of both the exterior and interior, such as the adoption of a wider body for all 3-liter models mounting high-performance tires with an aspect ratio of 50. Engine performance has also been upgraded: output of the twin-cam turbo engines 7M-GTEU (3 liters) and 1G-GTEU (2 liters) has undergone improvement.

The Supra 3.0 GT Turbo A to be marketed on a limited 500-unit sales basis is a special model developed separately from the 3.0 GT Turbo to satisfy market demand for higher performance.

The 3.0 GT Turbo A increases the Supra's competitiveness in domestic and overseas motor sports events, which have become increasingly popular in recent years. With race tuning, this model is scheduled to enter races from this fall.

Outline of Supra

1. Exterior and Interior

   The newly designed front bumper and the large rear combination lamp with an integrated light emitting diode (LED) high mount stop lamp together create an impressive exterior.

   On the inside the functional components around the driver have been modeled in black, the steering wheel newly designed and the controls and switches redesigned for easier operation.

   Eight-way power sports seats, speed-sensitive automatic door lock, FM diversity antenna and other new options are featured depending on the model grade. The eight-way sports seats have a new power reclining mechanism, and seat slide, vertical adjuster, side support and lumbar support features (standard equipment for 3-liter models) are all electronically operated.

2. Running Performance

   The 3-liter twin-cam turbo engine, the 7M-GTEU, and 2-liter twin-cam turbo engine, the 1G-GTEU, are fueled with unleaded premium gasoline for better performance (but also can be run on unleaded regular gasoline). A newly developed 2-liter inline six-cylinder twin-cam engine, the 1G-FE, has been added to the list of powerful engines. Output of all engines, including that of the sporty twin-cam 1G-GEU, has been improved.
