TOYOTA OPENS SERVICE STATION IN MOSCOW
Toyota City―TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION (TMC) today announced the opening of its first authorized service station for the Soviet Union. Located in the Kuntsevo district of Moscow, it is the first of 10 such stations that Toyota plans to establish in the Soviet Union by 1991.
The new service station was set up by TMC, Toyota Tsusho Corp., and a Soviet company, (v/o) AVTO Export. TMC and Toyota Tsusho will provide the necessary equipment, machinery, technical guidance, and operating funds, with AVTO managing daily operations.
Although Toyota exports to the Soviet Union began in 1960, the cumulative total of by the end of 1988 stood at only 213 units. However, demand for automobiles has increased dramatically recently, with TMC exports to the Soviet Union last year alone jumping to 2,541 units. This year's shipments are expected to exceed that figure.
In addition to the service stations, Toyota also has plans for a service training center in the future to help maintain and improve service.
