Toyota Announces Results For CY 1998

 

Tokyo―TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION today announced its production, domestic registration, export, and overseas production results for December 1998 and for January-December 1998.

Results for December 1998

  • Monthly production in December decreased by 6.9% versus the same month last year to 234,000 units.
  • Registrations in the overall domestic market, excluding minivehicles, decreased by 23.5% versus December 1997 to 300,000 units (down by 13.8% to 444,000 units including minivehicles). Reflecting this trend, registrations of Toyota vehicles decreased by 24.0% versus December 1997 to 113,000 units. Toyota held a 37.5% share of the overall market (25.3% including minivehicles).
  • Due to decreased exports to Asia and other regions, overall exports in December fell compared with the same month of the previous year. Overseas production exceeded that of the same month of the previous year, thanks to steady production at Toyota Motor Manufacturing (UK) Ltd. (TMUK) and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada Inc. (TMMC).

Results for January-December 1998 (CY1998)

  • Toyota's production in CY1998 decreased by 9.6% compared to the previous calendar year to 3,170,000 units.
  • Registrations in the overall domestic market in CY1998, excluding minivehicles, decreased by 15.2% versus CY1997 to 4,340,000 units (down by 12.6% to 5,880,000 including mini vehicles). Registrations of Toyota vehicles decreased by 14.7% compared to the previous year to 1,710,000 units. Toyota held a 39.4% share of the total market (29.1% including minivehicles).
  • Due to decreased exports to Asia and other regions, overall exports in CY1998 fell compared with the previous calendar year. Overseas production exceeded that of CY1997, thanks to steady production at Toyota Motor Manufacturing (UK)Ltd. (TMUK), Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky, Inc. (TMMK) and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada Inc. (TMMC).
