Toyota Announces Results for
December 1997 and for the Year

 

Tokyo―TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION today announced its production, domestic registration, export, and overseas production results for December 1997 and for January-December 1997.

Results for December 1997

  • Monthly production in December decreased by 3.7% versus the same month last year to 251,000 units.
  • Registrations in the overall domestic market, excluding minivehicles, decreased by 9.3% versus December 1996 to 392,000 units (down by 8.4% to 515,000 units including minivehicles). Reflecting this trend, registrations of Toyota vehicles decreased by 14.4% versus December 1996 to 148,000 units. Toyota held a 37.8% share of the overall market (28.7% including minivehicles).
  • Due to increased exports to Europe, Latin America, and other regions, overall exports in December rose compared with the same month of the previous year. Overseas production exceeded that of the same month of the previous year, thanks to steady production at New United Motor Manufacturing, Inc. (NUMMI) and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky, Inc. (TMMK).

Results for January-December 1997 (CY1997)

  • Toyota's production in CY1997 increased by 2.7% compared to the previous calendar year to 3,500,000 units.
  • Registrations in the overall domestic market in CY1997, excluding minivehicles, decreased by 4.9% versus CY1996 to 5,113,000 units (down by 5.0% to 6,727,000 including minivehicles). Registrations of Toyota vehicles decreased by 6.1% compared to the previous year to 2,010,000 units. Toyota held a 39.2% share of the total market (29.8% including minivehicles).
  • Due to increased exports to Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, and other regions, overall exports in CY1997 increased versus the previous calendar year. Overseas production exceeded that of CY1996, thanks to steady production at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky, Inc. (TMMK) and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada Inc. (TMMC).
