Toyota Establishes Cold Research Centre in Canada

Tokyo―TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION (TMC) announced today that its Canadian affiliate, Toyota Canada Inc. (TCI), recently completed construction of a Cold Research Centre in Timmins, Ontario, Canada.

The Cold Research Centre was established in Timmins, where winter temperatures reach -40°C and snowy conditions prevail, in order to conduct real-world cold-weather vehicle performance tests in one of Canada's toughest climates.

Up to now, cold weather testing was conducted at The Shibetsu Proving Ground (located in Hokkaido, Japan), and in North America.
By establishing a permanent test centre in Timmins, it will be possible to achieve higher testing and evaluation standards for vehicles bound for the North American market.

The complex includes an office building and vehicle preparation facilities, built on approximately one million square meters of land leased from the city. Investment totaled approximately C$1.2 million, and the facilities and equipment are owned and operated by TCI.

Ontario provincial officials, Timmins Mayor Vic Power, TMC Director Akio Matsubara and TCI President Yoshio Nakatani were among those who attended the opening ceremony at the Centre on October 14 (October 15 Japan time).
