Toyota to Establish New Company for Supervising
North American Manufacturing Operations

Tokyo―TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION (TMC) announced today that it will establish Toyota Motor Manufacturing, North America, Inc. (TMM NA) in Northern Kentucky, U.S.A. The new company will consolidate manufacturing-related support functions currently carried out by a number of Toyota's North American manufacturing and administrative entities, as well as some functions handled in Japan. By consolidating these activities, TMM NA will accelerate the decision-making process and increase operational efficiency.

The establishment of TMM NA, scheduled for October 1, 1996, will put in place a production support system that will be indispensable for dealing with the expansion of annual production capacity in North America to 1.2 million units in 1998, as outlined in Toyota's New Global Business Plan announced in June 1995. As part of the reorganization, Toyota Motor Manufacturing, U.S.A., Inc. (TMM) will change its name to Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky, Inc. (TMMK).

TMM NA will consist of eight manufacturing-support divisions―Purchasing, Production Engineering, Business Planning/ Production Control, Quality Assurance, General Administration, Legal/External Affairs, Accounting and Finance, and the Toyota Supplier Support Center (TSSC)―in addition to a Corporate Planning Office. TMM President Mikio Kitano has been appointed to serve concurrently as president of TMM NA. Employment at the new company is planned to be approximately 560.

The company will support TMM; the new T100 truck plant in Indiana; TABC, Inc. in California; Bodine Aluminum, Inc. in Missouri; and Canadian Autoparts Toyota Inc. (CAPTIN) in British Columbia. TMM NA will also lend manufacturing-related support to Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Canada Inc. (TMMC) in Ontario and New United Motor Manufacturing, Inc. (NUMMI) in California.
