Key Technology Revealed at ITS World Congress
Tokyo―TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION (TMC) will reveal key Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) technology at the 5th ITS World Congress to be held in Seoul, Korea from October 12 to 16, 1998. Technologies due to debut include navigation cooperation shift control, trial of congestion control measures in Hong Kong, and taxi operation management system, among others. Toyota hopes secure its place as Japan's top ITS company by actively promoting its comprehensive approach to ITS.
TMC constantly explores the feasibility of cooperation with leading companies inside and outside Japan. The key concept of this year's exhibit is to investigate business opportunities, mainly within the Asian region. TMC aims to achieve this goal by making available actual ITS products and systems to the public, and differentiating itself from competitors as a "well-rounded company in the ITS field."
The TMC exhibit consists of two parts: "Tomorrow ITS," employing a futuristic cockpit and computer graphics to display the potential of ITS; and "Current ITS Technology," using actual film footage on a large screen to introduce products and systems already commercialized by Toyota.
The following exhibits combine display panels, videos and actual ITS products. Items with an asterisk are being introduced for the first time at this Congress.

The ITS World Congress is held annually on a round-robin basis in North America, Europe and the Asia/Pacific. It is considered the most highly regarded international venue for the ITS field. This year's even will feature about 80 companies/organizations from 15 nations. The opening session on October 12 will feature greetings from honored guests including Kim Jong-Pil, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea. Welcome speeches will be delivered by Wayne Shackleford, Chairman of ITS America; Heinz Sodeikat, President of ERTICO*; Shoichiro Toyoda, Chairman of TMC and VERTIS** among others.
