Toyota Hits Global Production High in 1st Half

April―September 2000 Sees New Marks in Several Categories

Tokyo―TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION (TMC) today announced the results for the first half of the business year starting April 1, 2000, for TMC and subsidiary Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd., revealing total year-on-year increases across the board and setting all-time records on both a combined and independent basis.

The April-to-September period saw unprecedented heights for TMC-Daihatsu overseas and worldwide production, with both marks up 9% or higher than the same interval a year earlier. It was the ninth straight increase in first-half combined production abroad and the second consecutive jump in dual-company global production.

TMC, itself, set new records in three categories for the period. It secured its highest-ever first-half domestic market share by claiming 43.1% and saw worldwide production top 2.5 million units for the first time, largely due to record overseas production.
