Toyota Unveils 4 Models at Frankfurt Motor Show
Celica, MR2, Prius (LHD), Yaris Verso and 1.3-liter Yaris Debut
Tokyo―TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION (TMC), in the run-up to Germany's biggest automobile show, revealed in Frankfurt yesterday the latest redesign of its sporty Celica and the reborn MR2, along with the newest Prius (LHD) and the versatile Yaris Verso. The new Celica and the Yaris Verso are set for release in Europe this fall, while the MR2 will enter the market in the spring of 2000 and the Prius (LHD) in the summer. The Frankfurt Motor Show, with press days on Sept. 14 and 15, runs from Sept. 16-26.
The Celica is a compact car with advanced styling and plenty of cabin space. This "next-generation sport coupe" boasts a 1.8-liter gasoline engine with VVT-i for greater running stability and superior controllability.
The MR2 features the same 1.8-liter gasoline engine with VVT-i, installed mid-ship in this newly designed open-body two-seater sports car, which is characterized by a long wheel base, short overhang, and rear-wheel drive.
The Prius (LHD) is equipped with the Toyota Hybrid System, which is perfectly suited to European driving conditions. Plans call for annual sales of 20,000 units in the European and North American markets.
The Yaris Verso offers a retractable rear seat that can be stored under the floor, providing plenty of cabin space despite its compact body. Its 1.3-liter VVT-i gasoline engine makes for both a smooth ride and great fuel economy.
Also on display at the Frankfurt gathering is the latest addition to the Yaris line-up―a VVT-i 1.3-liter gasoline engine version.
