Tsugi-Craft brings new life to high-performance automotive scrap through the art of “tsugi” — literally meaning to join, connect, and move toward the next future. Our unique production approach combines the meticulous craftsmanship of Japan with Toyota’s expertise in industrial manufacturing. Through Tsugi-Craft, we offer a new premium upcycling option that embodies both innovation and thoughtful design.
This stationery series by Toyota is created through the upcycling of premium seat leather scraps originally used in LEXUS vehicles.

This leather couldn’t be used in cars because of small scratches or wrinkles. In the Toyota Upcycle collection, these marks become part of the product’s charm. We take materials that would have been thrown away and turn them into something new. Each scar and crease shows the natural history of the leather — making every piece unique. These marks are not defects, but details that give personality and warmth.

Made from upcycled nylon fabric waste and surplus seatbelt materials, this collection reduces waste and minimizes environmental impact, offering outdoor gear that combines practicality with functionality.
Scraps reborn through dyeing
When nylon fabric is dyed, adding dye at high temperatures creates a distinctive texture. During this process, the nylon shrinks, giving rise to an appealing, wrinkle-like pattern in the textile.
In this way, materials once considered waste are reborn into products of greater value.

The card case and key holder are crafted from seat leather offcuts from a Crown and beautifully woven carbon fiber scraps.
The original pen case from the TOYOTA UPCYCLE Project has also been transformed into a special edition featuring the Crown logo.

Products upcycled from airbags, first showcased at a pre-release in ComplexCon Hong Kong on March 22, 2024, have now been made available for sale in Japan.
In 2025, the Made in Japan leather brand HERGOPOCH celebrates its 20th anniversary with a collaboration model with TOYOTA UPCYCLE.
This driving bag upcycles seat leather offcuts from Lexus, Land Cruiser, Crown, and other models, and incorporates them into one of HERGOPOCH's popular designs.
