Toyota India to Expand Annual Production Capacity
―Sales of "Etios Liva" Hatchback Start―
Toyota City, Japan, June 27, 2011―Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) announces that its production and sales subsidiary in India, Toyota Kirloskar Motor Private, Ltd. (TKM), plans to increase the combined annual production capacity of its two plants from 150,000 to 210,000 units in the first half of 2012. Forecasted total investment for the capacity increase is approximately 4.9 billion yen.
The production capacity increase―aimed to meet strong demand for the "Etios" sedan launched last December and for other models―will see annual production capacity at TKM's First Plant increased from 80,000 to 90,000 units and at TKM's Second Plant from 70,000 to 120,000 units.
TKM today also marked the launch of the Etios Liva* hatchback, a follow-up to the Etios sedan. The Etios Liva, which like the Etios was developed specifically for the Indian market, offers high-quality features in all areas including an elegant and sporty design, a roomy and comfortable interior, ample cargo space, best-in-class fuel efficiency, and a smooth ride on a variety of road surfaces. Exports of both the Etios Liva and the Etios are planned.
