TOYOTA CUMULATIVE PRODUCTION SURPASSES 40 MILLION UNITS
Statistics compiled by TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION show that Toyota's total cumulative production passed the 40-million unit mark on March 1st―a record previously achieved only by GM, Ford and Chrysler in the US (excluding overseas production) and unprecedented for a Japanese automaker.
The 40-millionth Toyota rolled off the production line 47 years and 10 months after the first Toyota, the A1, was produced by the Automobile Department of Toyoda Automatic Loom Works (the predecessor of today's TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION) in May 1935. This was just three years and two months after Toyota's cumulative production reached the 30 million level.
Passenger cars account for about 67 percent of the 40 million total, trucks and buses the remaining 33 percent. Approximately 60 percent of the total were sold in Japan. The other 40 percent were exported to overseas markets.
Better Vehicles for a Brighter TomorrowToyota has consistently striven ever since its founding to produce vehicles that would satisfy the needs and aspirations of motorists the world over and exemplify to the full the Toyota motto, "Good Thinking, Good Products." Recognizing that the automobile has become a central necessity and enrichment of human life, Toyota is striving today to further promote harmony between the automobile and society, by producing more attractive, more fuel efficient and higher performance products.
