TOYOTA TO WELCOME NUMMI TRAINEES
Toyota City―From September 16 through November 15 Toyota Motor Corporation will welcome about 90 group and team leaders from NUMMI (New United Motor Manufacturing Inc., Fremont, California), a joint company established by Toyota and General Motors in the United States. The 90 trainees will arrive in four separate groups. They will undergo training to become the supervisors who will form the nucleus I of plant operations. Between June 1984 and February 1985, Toyota hosted eight groups of NUMMI trainees, totaling approximately 250 persons. This will be the second time for the company to welcome NUMMI trainees.
NUMMI operations have progressed smoothly since their start in December 1984, and current plans call for switching to a two-shift system (day and night shifts) by the end of this year. In response to such plans, the number of employees has been increasing, and the training in Japan this time is mainly for group and team leaders who have been newly employed.
