TOYOTA MARKS PRODUCTION OF 70 MILLIONTH VEHICLE

Toyota City―A line-off ceremony was held by the TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION today at its Tsutsumi plant to celebrate the completion of its 70-millionth vehicle built in Japan. The car, a Vista Hardtop 2000 GT, was greeted by the applause of Toyota executives and plant workers when it rolled off the assembly line this morning.

Today's line-off came 55 years and six months after the Automobile Department of Toyoda Automatic Loom Works, destined to become the Toyota Motor Corporation, completed its first vehicle, a Model G1 truck, in August 1935.

Toyota produced a total of 4.2 million vehicles last year, and expects cumulative production to reach 100 million units before the year 2000.
