Toyota Motor Corporation (Toyota), Toyota Fudosan Co., Ltd. (Toyota Fudosan), and Toyota Alvark Tokyo Corporation (Toyota Alvark Tokyo) held an opening ceremony on September 15 for TOYOTA ARENA TOKYO (the Arena).
The Arena is designed to be a sacred ground where all those who dare to take on challenges―transcending genres such as sports and music as well as generational boundaries―can spread their wings and fly out into the world. It was created under the concept of "discovering potential together" in cooperation with many business partners.
As a sports venue, the Arena will not only serve as the home court for Alvark Tokyo, but will also provide opportunities for athletes to take on challenges in minor and para sports, opening its doors to all athletes. It will further act as a gateway for young athletes in Japan aspiring to the world stage by hosting B.LEAGUE youth tournaments and national competitions for elementary, junior high, and high school students. Through these initiatives, the Arena aims to become a place of inspiration for the next generation of athletes.
As a music and entertainment venue, the Arena will serve as a springboard for young artists, helping them take their next step in shaping the future and promoting the globalization of Japanese content. Next year, the Arena is scheduled to host Music Award Japan 2026.
Moreover, in cooperation with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and local businesses, new mobility services using next-generation vehicles such as the e-Palette will be introduced. This initiative aims to enhance mobility within the area while also revitalizing the community and creating a vibrant atmosphere.
The opening ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, including Yuriko Koike, Governor of Tokyo, and Shinji Shimada, Chairman and CEO of the Japan Professional Basketball League. Also in attendance were Akio Toyoda, Chairman of Toyota; Tomohide Yamamura, President of Toyota Fudosan; and Kunihiko Hayashi, President of Toyota Alvark Tokyo, who expressed gratitude to all involved and shared the vision embodied in the Arena.
The program also featured a panel discussion with Chairman Toyoda, Japan Sports Agency Commissioner Koji Murofushi, and athletes including Alvark Tokyo captain Zack Baranski.
Toyota Alvark Tokyo President Hayashi commented, "We hope this arena will be a starting point and a place of aspiration not only for basketball, but for all athletes across a wide range of sports and users, including para and minor sports. As a Tokyo-based club, we will also work with local businesses to revitalize the community through mobility solutions."
The Arena will open on October 3 with Alvark Tokyo's home season opener. On October 11 and 12, it will host its inaugural live music performance featuring Official Hige Dandism.
