Toyota is getting some extra promotional mileage from the 1985 summer box-office hit, "Back to the Future," thanks to special appearances in the movie by the Toyota "Dream Truck."

Owning the jet black, specially modified 4x4 SR5 Xtracab sport truck is the "dream" of the movie's main character, Marty McFly, played by Michael J. Fox, who is best-known for his starring role as Alex P. Keaton on the television series, "Family Ties." But before he ever gets a chance to drive the truck, McFly is propelled back to 1955 in a DeLorean-turned-time-machine, where he meets his teenage parents-to-be, modifies history, and, in order to get back to 1985, enlists the help of the eccentric scientist who built the time machine.

The Toyota "Dream Truck" is also being featured in a tie-in promotion sponsored by the California Raisin Advisory Board, which is encouraging retail food stores nationwide to set up displays promoting raisins using the movie and the truck.

Other point-of-purchase displays produced by the Raisin Board feature the truck and include a consumer sweepstakes entry form as well as an offer for a small scale, battery-powered plastic replica of the truck. The actual super grand prize is a real replica of the "Dream Truck," and three additional Toyota 4x4 SR5 Xtracabs will also be given away.
