As the world is speeding into the era of carbon neutrality and commoditization of cars, the car industry itself is undergoing unprecedented changes. In spite of it all, we hope that sports cars can serve to enrich people's lives. Ultimately, "we want the GR86 to be an exciting car" and with this mindset as a team, we had great fun developing its design.

For the GR86, we strove to create a simple and timeless design by trimming away all excess so customers can treasure it for a long time.
As new ideas were being implemented, we wanted the design to enhance driving functions, like the front fender top that's visible from the driver's seat to better grasp the car's behavior or the air outlet on the side to extract air from the wheel house.

"Driving at Will": to fulfill this expectation for the GR86, design-wise, we aimed to express it through functional beauty. Weight and placement of all components farthest from the center of the vehicle influence its dynamic performance, so they were brought closer to the center of gravity, made smaller, lighter, and of course more stylish, while the hidden components were also painstakingly designed.

The interior design takes into account the driver's movements, allowing one to concentrate on driving. The instrument panel has a horizontal orientation for visual stability and doesn't obstruct forward visibility. The layout of the ornaments and part lines are designed to also serve as visual guides towards switches and knobs. The positioning of the operation switches enables intuitive use, reducing eye movement and allowing the driver to focus on the road.

In designing the interior of a sports car, what I first and foremost kept in mind is to create a simple interior space that enables the driver to focus on driving.
The newly designed door grip that's easy to use, the meter sporting the boxer engine motif, seats with great support, all are designed to enhance the joy of driving the GR86.

Concerning color design, it was challenging to make the 86 identity suit the GR brand philosophy, but we've managed it well.
For the interior, the color scheme was chosen to enhance the joy of driving, and in selecting material, we paid meticulous attention to the smallest detail to provide the driver a sense of oneness with the GR86.
